The Prime Minister-led Medical Education Commission is holding its meeting in Singhdurbar at 11 am on Monday (April 28).
The 19th meeting of the commission comes at a time when resident doctors of private medical colleges have been staging a protest demanding pay and perks on a par with the government scale. The meeting will discuss the demands of resident doctors.
It should be noted that the government, about 2.5 months ago, had decided that resident doctors working in private schools should get a compensation package of Rs 48,737, on a par with their counterparts at government hospitals. However, private medical colleges have not implemented this decision.
From Friday (April 25) onwards, the residents have begun intensifying their protest by boycotting services nationwide. Proprietors of private medical and dental colleges have been saying that they can offer the government-fixed compensation package only when the source of income is guaranteed.
