Traffic movement along the Maitighar-Baneshwor road stretch is likely to suffer significantly for most part of the day on April 20 with teachers of community schools and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party staging their protests, for the enactment of the School Education Bill through incorporation of their protests and for the Sanatan Hindu kingdom and the constitutional monarchy, respectively.

The RPP is holding its meeting at 11 am ahead of its protests during which, according to its earlier announcements, the leaders will seek to enter prohibited zones and offer their voluntary arrest as part of its effort also aimed at securing the release of its senior leaders Dhawal Shumsher Rana and Rabindra Mishra.

Bishnu Giri, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, said: The teachers' protest began at 9 am today. Because of the protest at Maitighar Mandala-Bijuli Bazaar, vehicles cannot head for Maitighar Mandala from Baneshwor and vice-versa, with the whole road blocked due to a sizable number of protesters.

We are diverting oncoming heavy vehicles coming from Koteshwor through Ratopul using the Tinkune-Sinamangal-Gaushala stretch. In the case of vehicles heading toward Koteshwor from Maitighar, we are diverting them toward Gaushala via the Jay Nepal stretch. As for light vehicles, we are diverting them toward Hanumansthan (Anamnagar) through the Baneshwor-Thapagaun stretch.

With the Baneshwor-Maitighar Mandala stretch fully obstructed, there is significant pressure of vehicles along side road, the spokesperson informed.
