Former Energy Minister Kulman Ghising has been appointed as the chairman of the Ujyalo Nepal Party. The decision was taken during the party’s central committee meeting held on Saturday.
Ghising’s appointment comes after the proposed merger between Ujyalo Nepal and the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) collapsed. Talks between Ghising and RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane ended without agreement due to differences over party ideology, proportional representation, and organizational structure.
Earlier, Ghising had stepped down from the Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation ministries amid criticism regarding his party’s role in the Sushila Karki–led government. With the merger plan no longer viable, Ghising will now lead Ujyalo Nepal independently, focusing on expanding the party and strengthening its organization nationwide.
