Koshi Province, which is home to numerous attractions like eight-thousanders, including the 8848-meter Sagarmatha, the world’s highest peak, and the Tinjure-Milke-Jaljale (TMJ) region, the rhododendron capital, is bracing to make it big by bringing in a good number of tourists—both domestic and international—as the new Nepali year 2082 begins.

In this connection, the main organizing committee of the Koshi province government launched the Tourism Year 2082 campaign of the province by organizing a special ceremony at the RR Garden in the Tinjure region of Tehrathum on April 9.

The event brought together leaders and stakeholders from all levels of government, tourism authorities and local communities to mark the beginning of a year-long initiative aimed at unlocking the tourism potential of the province.

On the occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Prakash Man Singh expressed optimism that the campaign would significantly contribute to the national economy. He shed light on the importance of close coordination among federal, provincial and local governments to make sure that tourism becomes a meaningful vehicle for economic and social transformation.

Chief Minister of the province, Hikmat Kumar Karki, pledged to move forward by identifying and promoting new destinations. He highlighted the potential of establishing the provincial capital as a tourism-driven center, with areas like Tinjure-Milke-Jaljale—now declared the Capital of Rhododendrons—playing a pivotal role in attracting both domestic and international visitors, especially during the blooming season.

Addressing the event, Nepal Tourism Board CEO Deepak Raj Joshi described the launch of the Tourism Year 2082 campaign as a timely and strategic step for both the province and the country. Thanks to its rich biodiversity, cultural heritage and welcoming communities, the province holds immense potential to emerge as a model of inclusive and sustainable tourism development, he said. Joshi reaffirmed Nepal Tourism Board’s commitment to supporting such regional initiatives that align with the national vision of promoting Nepal as a year-round destination.

Also present at the ceremony were Minister for Forest and Environment Ain Bahadur Shahi, Speaker of Koshi Province Assembly Ambar Bahadur Bista and Members of the House of Representatives Sita Gurung and Rajendra Rai.

With a growing focus on infrastructure development, destination promotion, and community engagement, the campaign is expected to become a catalyst for regional prosperity and national impact.
