The Kaski District Court has ordered the release of Ravi Lamichhane, the Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and former Home Minister, on a bail of 6.5 million rupees. The court, led by Judge Neetij Rai, issued the bail order for Lamichhane and six other individuals on Thursday.
The court has ordered the following bail amounts: 6.5 million rupees for Ravi Lamichhane, 8.8 million rupees for Chhavilal Joshi, 3.6 million rupees for Lila Pahichai, 1.5 million rupees for Ram Khanal, 100,000 rupees for Krishna Gurung, 500,000 rupees for Meena Gurung, and 500,000 rupees for Aarti Gurung.
Following the court's decision, RSP and Lamichhane supporters celebrated, raising slogans in joy, claiming that justice had been served, and that the country has a functioning judiciary.
Lamichhane was charged with cooperative fraud, money laundering, and organized crime. After extensive hearings, the court issued the bail order on Thursday. However, even though the court has granted bail, Lamichhane will not be immediately released. There is a possibility that the police will take him to Kathmandu District Court to present him in connection with a case related to the mismanagement of the Swarnalaxmi Cooperative.
