The Kathmandu district court has granted police two more days to keep Durga Prasain, the self-styled commander of the March 28 protest of royalist forces in Kathmandu, and 52 others in judicial custody.
Prasain and others face charges of criminal conspiracy, offenses against the state and organized crime vis-a-vis the incidents of looting, arson, vandalism and state suppression of the protest that resulted in the loss of two lives.
In the course of the protest, Prasain had drove through the crowd in Tinkune, claiming later that he took the desperate move fearing for his own life in view of a shoot-at-sight order from high above. He then went into self-exile in India, only to be arrested later.
As per existing legal provisions, the government attorney's office should file a chargesheet against the accused within 60 days of arrest.
