The Israeli cabinet has approved a new plan to expand military operations in Gaza. This decision, made unanimously by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his ministers, aims to defeat the Palestinian group Hamas and rescue hostages believed to be held in Gaza.

According to Israeli officials, the plan includes taking control of certain areas in Gaza and moving the civilian population toward the southern region. Thousands of reserve soldiers have been called back by the Israeli army to support the operation, international news agency AFP reported.

This decision comes at a time when the United Nations and several humanitarian organizations have been repeatedly warning about the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Officials and aid groups fear that the new military action could lead to even more suffering for civilians. Due to the complete blockade on Gaza that has lasted for over two months, the risk of famine has increased sharply.

Critics of the plan say it could endanger the lives of the hostages rather than helping them. The situation on the ground remains extremely tense and dangerous.

Since the start of Israel’s renewed attacks on March 5, at least 2,436 people have been killed in Gaza, according to local health authorities. Many more have been injured, and essential services like hospitals, water, and electricity are under severe pressure.
