Nepal Tourism Board, in collaboration with the Nepal Forum of Environmental Journalists (NEFEJ), organized an interactive program titled 'Impact of Air Pollution on Tourism' on April 12 in Kathmandu. The program brought together tourism and environment experts, journalists and stakeholders to discuss the growing challenges resulting from air pollution and climate change to Nepal’s tourism sector.

NTB said the event is part of its ongoing initiative to promote a cleaner environment and sustainable tourism practices. By creating a platform for open dialogue among key actors, NTB aims to raise awareness, encourage joint action, and advocate for long-term solutions that support both environmental and tourism resilience.

Speaking at the event, Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Tourism Board, Deepak Raj Joshi, said, “Tourism is one of the few sectors contributing positively to the green economy. While sectors like construction and industry are adding to environmental degradation, tourism promotes conservation and sustainability. Nepal is facing the disproportionate impacts of climate change despite its low emissions. Air pollution, especially in urban centers, is increasingly overshadowing our image as a naturally beautiful destination. The government must prioritize the tourism sector, which directly and indirectly supports over one million jobs, by reducing environmental risks and implementing policy reforms that protect our tourism assets.”
