High-Level Talks Between India and Pakistan to Manage Conflict

India and Pakistan are holding talks today as part of efforts to deescalate.

Two weeks ago, after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, India and Pakistan started a war.

Just last Saturday, both countries declared a full ceasefire. The talks are happening today as part of a pre-scheduled plan to resolve the issue through discussions.

The meeting will take place this afternoon with senior military officers from both countries, as confirmed by India's Ministry of External Affairs. India's Director General of Military Operations and Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations will lead the talks, as reported by Indian media.

The long-standing dispute between India and Pakistan is over the ownership of the Jammu and Kashmir region. It is hoped that the talks will help resolve the issue.

After military actions started between the two countries, neighboring nations like Nepal, China, the United States, and European countries urged both sides to resolve the matter through dialogue.

The United States suggested an immediate ceasefire between India and Pakistan and called for solving the issue through talks. The US also expressed readiness to mediate if the talks do not succeed.
