House Speaker Devaraj Ghimire has said that restoring Parliament through a Supreme Court decision and then going to elections is the best way to resolve the current political crisis.

Speaking at a press conference in his home constituency of Jhapa-2, Ghimire said the country must find a solution by returning to the constitutional process.

He said the Gen-Z movement and the violent incidents on September 8 and 9 caused loss of lives and billions of rupees in damage to physical infrastructure. He added that these events also badly affected the legislature, executive and judiciary, pushing the constitution aside.

Ghimire said there are two possible options. The first is to restore Parliament, address the genuine demands of protesters through legal changes, and then hold elections. The second option is to immediately hold elections for a fresh public mandate.

“I believe restoring Parliament first is the most suitable option,” he said. He added that the issue is now before the Supreme Court and expressed hope for a quick decision.
