Foreign Minister Arzu Rana has asked officials to make the Tatopani border crossing in Sindhupalchowk better organized and more efficient, pointing out its key role in trade and tourism.
During her visit to the border and customs office on Friday, she said improving infrastructure and coordination is important, especially since the crossing is expected to bring in over Rs 22 billion in revenue each year.
She was joined by Nepali Congress lawmaker Mohan Bahadur Basnet and other officials.
Minister Rana also talked about the crossing's potential to promote religious tourism, as it provides access to Mansarovar in China. She said the government will take steps to upgrade the Kathmandu-Kodari international trade route and other roads in the area.
She and her team also spoke with local lawmakers, representatives and stakeholders to discuss changes and improvements necessary in the border area.
