Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has been arrested at Manila Airport under an order from the International Criminal Court. He was taken into custody right after returning from a program held in Hong Kong.
The International Criminal Court had issued an arrest warrant against him on charges of extrajudicial killings carried out by government security forces during his anti-drug campaign.
According to human rights activists, although 30,000 people were unlawfully killed, only a few individuals have been prosecuted in this case. Duterte served as the President of the Philippines from 2016 to 2022.
