The Election Commission has instructed Election Code of Conduct Monitoring Officers to strictly enforce the election code of conduct from today until voting centres close.
The election to the House of Representatives is scheduled for March 5.
To monitor the code of conduct, the EC has appointed the Assistant Chief District Officer and the Chief of the District Treasury Office in each district with specific responsibilities. They have been directed to ensure that all rules mentioned in the Election Code of Conduct, 2082 BS, are properly followed.
According to the code, political parties and candidates are not allowed to carry out any form of election campaigning from midnight onwards.
With the start of the silence period for the March 5 election, all election publicity has been banned. This rule also applies to social media and other online platforms.
The silence period is meant to give voters time to think carefully and decide who they want to vote for without any influence from campaign activities.
