The Election Commission (EC) has finished printing ballot papers for 100 constituencies in 44 districts for the House of Representatives election on March 5.
The ballots are being printed in Sanothimi, Bhaktapur. As of Monday, a total of 12.256 million ballot papers have been printed, the Commission’s Assistant Spokesperson, Kul Bahadur GC, said. He added that printing is complete for districts such as Dolpa, Mugu, Jumla, Kalikot, Humla, Jajarkot, Dailekh, Rukum (West), Salyan, Surkhet, Bajura, Achham, Bajhang, Doti, Dadeldhura, Darchula, Baitadi, Kailali, Kanchanpur, Panchthar, Ilam, Tehrathum, Bhojpur, Okhaldhunga, Sunsari, Taplejung, Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Khotang, Dhankuta, Baglung, Gulmi, Jhapa, Gorkha, Myagdi, Parbat, Bardaghat Susta West (Nawalparasi), Morang, Udaypur, and Mustang.
Printing has also been completed for 44 other districts, including Lamjung, Tanahun, Syangja, and Bardiya. The printed ballots have been packed by district, and 10,759 ballot boxes have been prepared so far.
The EC started printing ballots in Sanothimi for both the direct election (first-past-the-post) and proportional representation systems. In the first phase, 1,098,200 sample ballots were printed and sent to districts.
Ballot printing for the proportional representation system began on January 26, with 2.83 million ballots printed, packed, and ready to be sent out. In total, 20.323 million ballots will be printed for the direct election system.
