Court Grants Release of Impeached Korean President Yoon

A South Korean court has granted the release of President Yoon Suk-yeol, who was arrested following his impeachment. The lawyers from the suspended President Yoon Suk-yeol’s side appealed last month to revoke the arrest, arguing that his custody was illegal. Prosecutors had waited a long time before filing charges against Yoon.

The court has decided to cancel the ongoing custody of the president to ensure procedural clarity and validate the investigation process. President Yoon was taken into custody on January 15. Per media reports, the constitutional court is currently reviewing the impeachment case and will decide whether to remove him from office.
