The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against five people, including the then chief administrative officer (CAO) of Kalaiya Sub-metropolitan City in Bara, for irregularities in the purchase of sanitary pads.
The accused include Prahlad Prasad Barnawal, the then CAO, education officer Vijay Adhikari, sales chief Rajesh Thakur, account officer Divya Sarraf and Bimlesh Sah, the operator of Sagar Devi Farm, which got the contract to supply the pads.
The CIAA has alleged that the pads were bought at a higher price than they should have been during the fiscal years 2021-22 and 2022-23.
CIAA spokesperson Rajendra Kumar Poudel said the price of the pads was raised from Rs 24 to Rs 78 per packet, which led to the case being filed.
CIAA is seeking the recovery of Rs 51,99,120 from the accused and a jail term for them.
