After complaints that medicines produced by Nepal Aushadhi Limited (NAL were not being sold, the Ministry of Health and Population held discussions with Minister Pradeep Paudel to find a solution, on Tuesday after which the Department of Health Services started the process to buy medicines.

The Management Division under the department has written to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division to begin the process of buying paracetamol and oral rehydration salts (Jeevan Jal) for disease control programs.

Division Chief Dr Pawan Jung Rayamajhi said the procurement process will move forward as per the rules. On Tuesday, officials from the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies and NAL held talks at the Health Ministry.

Minister Paudel said the ministry is positive about buying necessary medicines following proper procedures. He added that the government will ensure important medicines reach health centers at all three levels of government.

During the discussion, there was an agreement to form a committee to solve the problems related to the sale of medicines. The committee will be led by a secretary from the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies and include representatives from the Health Ministry, Finance Ministry, Federal Affairs Ministry and NAL.
