Nepal Verified News caught up with Keshar Bahadur Bista, president of the Rastriya Janashakti Party, about the ongoing movement for the restoration of monarchy, the Hindu kingdom and the abrogation of federalism.

Q: At a glance, the movement for the restoration of constitutional monarchy and the Hindu kingdom appears rudderless, doesn’t it?

In the case of a party, at the call of a leader, supporters rally for a cause.

Ours is a movement for the preservation of the nation, for making the monarchy the symbol of national unity. One or two people leading it is a wrong concept. We are seeking a guardian institution for the protection and preservation of the country in keeping with the feelings of the masses. There’s a feeling among the public that all like-minded forces should come together for this cause.

Respecting this feeling, the process of uniting for the cause is in progress.

Q: Can you shed light on this process?

For example, the Rastriya Shakti Nepal, our movement for the restoration of the constitutional monarchy and declaration of Nepal as a Hindu kingdom and abrogation of federalism, is working together with other like-minded organizations and personalities under a joint committee (the joint movement mobilization committee under Navaraj Suvedi), for the common cause.

But there are feelings in that committee that it is inclusive enough, that it looks more like a uni-party structure because of which there is some dissatisfaction among the people.

For correcting this flaw, Jagman Gurungji (the new coordinator of the committee after the house arrest of Suvedi), is coordinating with different organizations in a bid to bring them together.

Currently, we (Rastriya Janashakti Party) have about 40 organizations as affiliates and efforts are afoot to bring more of them under our fold. We are in talks with some organizations like Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and RPP-Nepal for unity. RPP-Nepal has come quite close whereas talks are underway with RPP.  Within a certain timeframe, all this, I think, will morph into some concrete form.

There’s no reason to be dissatisfied, no reason to lose hope.

Q: Your comment on certain analyses that the movement may lose steam if forces behind it remain disunited…...

There are different kinds of scholars in society with different perspectives…. There is no reason to be pessimistic and I hope it will yield some outcome pretty soon. It is getting stronger internally.

Collective leadership is necessary to make the movement effective. This is because it is not a clique of a specific party. Till the realization of a goal, these forces should stay together.

Since not all people rally behind a person, collective leadership is necessary to accomplish the mission.
