Fighting has erupted in the capital city of Syria, Damascus, between the supporters of the new government, the Syrian army, and the Assad government.
The clash in Latakia, near a Russian-controlled airbase located in northwestern Syria, is the most violent clash between forces linked to Syria’s Islamic government and opposition fighters since Bashar al-Assad’s government collapsed last December, according to BBC.
Nearly 70 former fighters who fought for the government have been killed, media report stated, adding that more than 25 people have been arrested.
