Mishra from the Nepal Congress-CPN(UML) panel has become the new president of Nepal Bar Association, the umbrella organization of legal practitioners across the country, securing 5,052 votes and a comfortable victory against his closest contender, senior advocate Raman Kumar Shrestha.  from a CPN (Maoist Center)-led panel, who received 2,621 votes.

The Maoist-led panel drew its strength also from lawyers close to the Rastriya Swatantra Party and Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Socialist).


Senior advocate Kedar Prasad Koirala, the candidate from the Mishra-led panel, got elected as the general secretary by securing 4,874 votes against his closest contender Yagyamani Neupane's 2,367 votes.

 Padam Prasad Limbu has become NBA vice-president from the Koshi province, Ajay Shankar Jha from Madhes, Tej Bahadur Rawal from Bagmati, Bhupendra Khanal from Gandaki, Krishna Prasad Pokharel from Lumbini, Bibash Kumar Basnet from Karnali and Siddharaj Ojha from Sudurpaschim.

Saraswati Shrestha has become vice-president of the Bar from the women’s category whereas Jagat Bahadur Karki has become its treasurer.

The voting for the association’s 27th central committee, which had 9,957, took place on April 5 through 36 centers, with a turnout of around 80 percent.
