Flights around Nepal have been disrupted due to bad weather and low visibility caused by ongoing rain.

The airport office said several airports, including Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, were affected. According to TIA spokesperson Rinji Sherpa, both domestic and international flights faced delays and changes due to poor visibility.

A Jazeera Air flight had to turn to Banaras, India, because of bad weather during its journey. In Nepal, a Buddha Air mountain flight also had to change its route.

Three planes from Summit and Tara Air flying from Ramechhap to Lukla were also diverted because of bad weather in Lukla.

As the rain started to ease, flights returned to normal at regional airports, including TIA. However, some smaller and remote airports still face delays. For example, a Nepal Airlines flight to Thamkharka was also diverted.

It rained lightly in the Kathmandu Valley this morning, but the Weather Forecasting Division said the weather has improved in the area.

The division explained that the rain was caused by westerly and local winds, along with moist air from the Bay of Bengal. This afternoon, skies may be partly to mostly cloudy across the country. Light to moderate rain, thunder, wind and lightning may occur in hilly areas like Koshi and Lumbini provinces. Some higher areas may also see rain or snowfall.
