In China, the Apple brand smartphone, which gained popularity, has seen a decrease in sales in 2024. Apple's smartphones held about 15% of the market share in China, the world's second-largest economy. Meanwhile, local brands like Huawei and Vivo took the lead with 16% and 17% market shares, respectively.
Other Chinese brands like Oppo and Honor, which were previously behind in sales, are now challenging Apple by capturing nearly 15% of the market, according to the Chinese news agency Xinhua. Apple's iPhone sales dropped from 51.08 million in 2023 to 42.09 million in 2024, while the report suggests that Vivo strengthened its position with local production, and Huawei made a comeback in the domestic market, with its smartphone exports growing by 37% last year.
Apple's iPhones are still popular in China, but consumers are increasingly attracted to local alternatives, making the competition more intense
