The Central Investigation Bureu(CIB) has declared that they will form a new team to work on the Nirmala Panta murder case, a high profile case of the Nepalese society. In the year of 2018, July 27, a 13 years old Nirmala was found raped and murdered in the sugarcane field near her home. Since that tragic event, the state has made significant efforts to detect the real culprit but has been unable to reach the conclusion. That is why a new team has been formed to investigate from the very beginning, using all the collected information and evidence.
Police sources have informed that preparations have begun to advance the investigation of the Nirmala murder case by reanalyzing it. The information from the previous investigation process will play a crucial role in uncovering the hidden truth behind the case.
In analyzing the evidence and facts, the responsibility has been handed over to the CIB by the police headquarters. On Tuesday, CIB Chief, Additional Inspector General(AIG) Deepak Thapa, had a long discussion with some police officers and others involved in the investigation.
One of the police officers who participated in the meeting has informed that the CIB team will re-investigate the Kanchanpur area. For now, the District Police Office of Kanchanpur is the only team investigating the case.
Before this, the CIB team had been investigating the case while staying in Kanchanpur. The team, which had been working on the case since its inception, has just returned from Kanchanpur. Despite their hard work, they were unable to gather enough evidence, which left the police in a divided state. It is also said that Nirmala Panta is from the local area of the current Home Minister, Ramesh Lekhak.
After a few months of investigation, in August 2018, the police arrested and publicly presented Dilip Bista from Kanchanpur. However, after Dilip's DNA test did not match, he was released. He was released by court order. Although some police officers claimed that Bista was the murderer of Nirmala, the court discharged him, stating that the evidence was insufficient.
Even after conducting DNA tests on hundreds of people in the investigation of Nirmala's murder, the police have been unable to identify the killer.
