In an effort to strengthen the legal system, the government is preparing to introduce 121 new laws within the current fiscal year, announced Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ajay Kumar Chaurasiya.
During a meeting of the National Assembly’s Committee on Public Policy and Delegated Legislation, Minister Chaurasiya said that the Ministry has already identified the required bills and submitted a legislative schedule to the Federal Parliament.
He explained that the initiative is guided by the government’s budget, policies, long-term plans, and international commitments. The government also aims to reduce the number of pending court cases and expand access to free legal aid in coordination with provincial and local governments.
The Ministry reported that under the Legislative Act, 6 regulations, 5 bylaws, 3 directives, and 7 procedures have been registered from various government bodies.
To improve access to justice, legal aid officers have been appointed in 74 districts. Through the Free Legal Aid Project, 1,179 consultations have been provided and 799 cases have been filed so far.
The Ministry has also prepared a draft bill on free legal aid, which is expected to be presented to Parliament this year.
