The world's oldest man, John Tinniswood, has died at the age of 112 in England. He died at a care home in Southport, northwest England, as reported by Guinness World Records on Tuesday, citing his family.
Tinniswood was born on August 26, 1912, in Liverpool. After the death of 114-year-old Juan Vicente Pérez of Venezuela in April, he became the world's oldest person. His family said his final days were “surrounded by music and love”. They also expressed their gratitude to everyone who had cared for him over the years.
Born in the same year the Titanic sank and surviving both World Wars, Tinniswood leaves behind a daughter, Susan, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Tinniswood told Guinness World Records that the secret to his longevity was "pure luck." He advised maintaining discipline in everything to stay healthy. During World War II, Tinniswood served in an administrative role with the Royal Army Pay Corps and later worked for oil companies such as Shell and BP. The world's oldest woman is 116-year-old Tomiko Itō from Japan.
