Vice-president Ramsahay Prasad Yadav has said that climate change is the biggest crisis facing today’s generation and stressed that the media has an important role in reducing its effects.
Speaking at the opening of the Lomanthang International Media Summit organized under the aegis of Nepal Press Union in Lalitpur, Vice-president Yadav said the media helps inform people and prevent climate disasters.
He urged the media to report truthfully about climate change so that the public stays informed, leaders can make better decisions, and new solutions to climate problems can be promoted.
He also said that journalists should highlight important climate topics like clean technology, government actions, ways to adjust to climate change, renewable energy and sustainable development. This, he said, would help stop the spread of false information and encourage responsible journalism.
“Freedom of the press is the foundation of democracy and is key to keeping governments accountable,” he said.
Vice-president Yadav also raised concerns about the spread of fake information, especially through social media and deepfake technology. This, he said, shows the urgent need for strong fact-checking systems.
