The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has outright rejected the government-formed committee tasked with investigating the recent visit visa controversy.
Addressing Parliament on Tuesday, RPP Chief Whip Gyanendra Shahi criticized the committee’s formation, arguing that it was influenced by the very individuals under suspicion. “How can justice be expected when those accused are leading the investigation themselves?” he questioned, drawing a sharp analogy: “It’s like letting a cat guard the milk.”
In protest, the RPP walked out of the House of Representatives meeting. The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) had already boycotted the session earlier, raising similar objections about the neutrality of the investigation.
The government had appointed former Chief Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi to lead the probe into alleged irregularities in the visit visa process.
However, both RPP and RSP claim the committee lacks credibility due to potential conflicts of interest, with concerns that people linked to the controversy could influence the investigation’s outcome.
