The Ministry of Finance announced on Monday that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has suspended seven more programs in Nepal, including some still in the planning stage. These programs cover areas like education, health, agriculture, statistics, biodiversity, local governance, and climate-resilient services.
This suspension follows an executive order from US President Donald Trump on January 20, 2025, which halts funding for 90 days.
Three of the affected programs were still being designed and hadn’t been agreed upon yet. This suspension adds to previous cuts in US funding to Nepal, including the halt of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and programs related to fiscal federalism and biodiversity conservation.
USAID has been working in Nepal since 1951, but all its projects are now suspended.
