The government attorney’s office has moved the court against Rabindra Mishra, senior vice-president of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, in connection with the March 28, Kathmandu-centric protest of royalist forces that resulted in the loss of lives and properties against the backdrop of violence and use of police force.
The case is based on a report from the Kathmandu District Police Complex.
Mishra faces charges on four counts, including offenses against the state, criminal conspiracy, organized crime and assorted offenses.
Along with several other figures, including Dhawal Shumsher Rana, general secretary of the RPP, Mishra had taken part in the protest at the call of Durga Prasain, the self-styled commander of the protest, which saw the death of journalist Suresh Rajak and transport worker Sabin Maharjan amid spiraling violence and use of police force.
On the night of March 28 itself, police had arrested Mishra for an investigation while he was returning home after visiting protesters undergoing treatment at the Gwarko-based B&B Hospital. Mishra spent 50 days in custody as part of a probe, only to be released following a Supreme Court order in response to a habeas corpus petition.
