A senior leader from the CPN (Unified Socialist) has called the corruption case against former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal a case of political revenge.

Ashesh Ghimire, a central committee member of the party, said the case was filed out of ego and vendetta by former PM KP Sharma Oli. He accused Oli of using state power to target political opponents while ignoring his own controversies.

“We are not against fair investigations,” Ghimire said, “but this move feels more like punishment for being a political rival, not a search for justice.”

He added that the party will discuss the issue internally and continue to support equal justice for everyone. Ghimire questioned whether KP Sharma Oli was above the law, asking, “Why is only our leader being targeted?”

The CIAA filed the corruption case on Thursday, making it the first time in Nepal's history that a former Prime Minister and current lawmaker has been formally charged with corruption.
