Despite higher trading volume, NEPSE ended the day lower as losses in non-life insurance weighed on the overall market.

After an early rise, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) ended Thursday’s trading session in the red, dropping 11.29 points to close at 2,596.12 points. The benchmark index had opened at 2,607.42 points and briefly climbed to 2,622.44 points before losing momentum and touching a day’s low of 2,591.02 points.
Only two sectors, manufacturing and processing and mutual funds, managed to post gains of 8.91 points and 0.03 points, respectively. In contrast, non-life insurance recorded the sharpest fall, tumbling by 108.95 points.
The sensitive index, reflecting the performance of ‘A’ class companies, also dipped by 2.08 points. Despite the decline, overall market activity strengthened, with turnover increasing to Rs 5.41 billion from Rs 4.68 billion a day earlier.
In company-wise performance, 78 companies gained, while 165 closed lower. Shivam Cements topped the turnover chart with transactions worth Rs 309.13 million. Sampada Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited was the biggest loser, whereas Daramkhola Hydro Energy Limited led the gainers’ list with a 10 percent rise in its share value.
