Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Sobita Gautam has strongly opposed the idea of dissolving Parliament, saying it would put people’s sovereignty at risk.

In a video message on Thursday, she explained that an interim citizens’ government could be formed with Gen-Z’s involvement, but Parliament must remain. “Parliament safeguards the people’s supreme authority. Dissolving it would endanger that authority,” she said.

Gautam also cautioned that no one should take self-serving decisions in the name of the Gen-Z movement. Her statement follows Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli’s resignation earlier this week after two days of violent protests, during which demonstrators vandalized Parliament, the Supreme Court, and Singha Durbar.

At the same time, the Nepali Army has urged Gen-Z protesters to join dialogue. Earlier today, Gen-Z representatives proposed creating a government under former Chief Justice Sushila Karki, with support from Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah, alongside calls to dissolve Parliament.

Gautam said she spoke out because of her responsibility as an elected MP. “An interim government can call elections, and then people, especially Gen-Z, can bring forward the leaders they want. But Parliament must continue,” she emphasized.

She added that she is equally committed to protecting Nepal’s system as she is to fighting corruption. “If the right people are elected, laws can be made to hold the corrupt accountable and even nationalize their property. But this can only happen if Parliament is preserved,” she said.
