CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has said that four different groups are working together to weaken his party. Speaking at a party meeting in Tokha on Thursday, he said these groups are running a coordinated campaign, especially online to damage UML’s image.

According to Pokharel, these groups include royalists, Maoists using the communist name, populist politicians, and some foreign forces. He claimed they all want UML to become weak because their goals can only succeed if UML is not strong.

He said royalists blame UML for stopping their dream of bringing back the monarchy. “If UML didn’t exist, they might have already succeeded,” he said.

Pokharel also accused some Maoists and leftist parties of working in the interest of foreign powers. He said they started attacking UML more after it joined hands with the Nepali Congress in a power-sharing deal.

He also criticized the Rastriya Swatantra Party and Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah, saying they are trying to mislead people with flashy promises and attacking UML because the party points out their weak policies.

Pokharel warned that international actors may also be trying to harm UML. He said the party has always stood for national dignity, like resisting the blockade and updating the country’s map. That, he said, is why they are being targeted.

He urged UML members not to lose confidence and to respond strongly to these challenges.
