The meeting of Nepal’s House of Representatives faced disruption once again today as lawmakers from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) continued their protest.
As soon as the parliamentary session started, RSP’s Hari Dhakal and RPP’s Gyanendra Shahi addressed the House and clearly stated that they would continue the obstruction. Soon after, RSP lawmakers surrounded the Speaker’s seat (the rostrum) and began shouting slogans, repeating the same form of protest they have used in previous sessions.
Both RSP and RPP have been obstructing the House since May 27, demanding the formation of a parliamentary investigation committee. Their main demand is a probe into allegations against Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, who has been linked to the controversial “Visit Visa” scandal.
According to them, the issue is serious and needs immediate investigation. Adding to this, RPP’s Chief Whip Gyan Bahadur Shahi announced that his party would boycott the parliament session until their demand is addressed. As a result, the functioning of the House remains stalled.
