Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) senior vice president Rabindra Mishra has said that his faith in Nepal’s judicial system has grown stronger. He made this remark after being released on Rs 300,000 bail on Tuesday in a case related to charges of sedition, criminal unrest, and organized crime.
Speaking to journalists outside the court, Mishra said, “Even when the state acts unjustly, the court is capable of delivering justice. It has shown that it can exercise independent judgment. My trust in Nepal's judiciary has greatly increased.”
He added, “The way the state accused us and tried to portray us as guilty was painful. I am happy that the court delivered justice. I won’t say much about the case now, but we are very relieved.”
Dhawal Shamsher Rana, RPP’s general secretary, who was also involved in the same case, accompanied Mishra during his release. Rana had posted bail and been released a day earlier, on Monday. Both had previously been released on a conditional basis but later appeared in court as required.
Rana also gave a brief statement alongside Mishra, saying, “The state tried to trap us, but the charges were baseless. I thank the court, everyone who supported us, and the media as well.”
The charges stem from a royalist protest held in Tinkune, Kathmandu on Chaitra 15, which turned violent. While Mishra and Rana have been released, Durga Prasai, believed to be one of the main organizers, along with six others, has been sent to jail. A total of 34 individuals have been released, and 65 people are facing various charges related to the incident
