Teachers currently engaged in protests have decided to hold talks only with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to resolve their issues.
Laxmi Kishor Subedi, central president of the Nepal Teachers' Federation, which is leading the protest, stated that as discussions with the Ministry of Education have failed to address their concerns, they will not engage in talks with anyone other than the PM.
Earlier, the federation informed the Ministry of Education and subordinate bodies about their demands and suggestions through formal letters, to no avail. As a result, talks with the ministry have become meaningless, the federation claims.
For the past 14 days, teachers of community schools from across the country have been staging a protest as part of their latest effort to press for the passage of the School Education Bill, which has been pending for long in the Parliament, by incorporating the promises made in the six-point deal signed with the then government in September 22, 2023. They have said they will not relent till the fulfillment of their demand.
Meanwhile, the federation has urged teachers who have not yet joined the protest to mandatorily participate, stating that monitoring for the same is underway in schools across the country.
