President Ram Chandra Paudel has declared that forming a cabinet from the current House of Representatives is no longer possible in the wake of the Gen-Z movement.
Speaking at a Constitution Day tea reception hosted by the President’s Office on Friday, he said the interim government was created through national consensus to address the leadership vacuum. “This government’s sole responsibility is to rebuild what has been damaged, hold elections within six months, and hand power back to the people’s representatives,” he stressed.
Paudel called timely elections the country’s most urgent task and urged political parties, state bodies, intellectuals, and civil society to unite for the democratic process. He described himself as the “guardian of the nation” during this transitional period and acknowledged the political crisis triggered by the September 9 events.
He emphasized that the new mandate would help institutionalize democracy and chart Nepal’s future course. At the same time, he called for collective commitment to good governance, anti-corruption, job creation, environmental protection, and social justice.
“The Gen-Z generation has demanded an end to corruption. We must take their voice seriously and bring real reform,” he said.
During the event, President Paudel expressed sorrow over the human and material losses during the September protests. The reception was attended by top political leaders and Gen-Z representatives.
