Chairperson of the Aam Janata Party (AJP), Prabhu Sah, has criticized Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli for showing double standards when it comes to elected representatives joining other parties.
Sah expressed his views through a Facebook post, where he questioned why it was acceptable for one elected official to join PM Oli’s party, but not for others.
Recently, PM Oli welcomed Vijay Mahato—the ward chairperson of Dhangadhimai municipality-7 in Siraha, who was elected from the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal (JSPN)—into his party, the CPN-UML, by offering him tika and garland. Sah said PM Oli looked happy doing so.
However, Sah pointed out that the same PM had removed Rina Kumari Sah, the mayor of Maulapur municipality in Rautahat, from her position last year for allegedly supporting another party. He asked, “If Vijay Mahato’s switch to the UML is valid, why was Rina Kumari Sah punished for doing something similar?”
Sah went on to accuse PM Oli of misusing his power and urged him to maintain some dignity in leadership. “Just because you hold power doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want,” Sah wrote. “Your double standards have already caused a lot of harm to the country.”
He ended his statement by asking the PM to stop misusing his position and think about the fairness of his actions.
