In the wake of continued obstructions in parliamentary proceedings, Prime Minister KP Oli is set to face the Parliament on March 31 regarding the opposition bench's demand to clarify on the dismissal of Kulman Ghising as the managing director of the Nepal Electricity Authority.

During a meeting with Speaker Devraj Ghimire, the leaders of the opposition parties and chief whips of the ruling parties agreed that PM Oli should explain the reasons behind Ghising’s dismissal.

Last Monday, the Cabinet had removed Ghising from his position at the state-run power utility, which led to the opposition parties blocking parliamentary proceedings and creating a deadlock.

The opposition bench has been stating that the obstructions will continue till PM Oli furnishes a clarification.

Initially, the government suggested that the concerned minister or Deputy Prime Minister respond, but the opposition leaders rejected this, demanding a clear statement from the PM himself.

After the meeting, CPN-UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula told the media that the Prime Minister will address the House of Representatives on March 31.
