Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli on Saturday remembered late leader Madan Bhandari as a visionary figure whose ideas continue to influence Nepal’s political journey. Speaking at a national symposium held at the Rastriya Sabha Griha to mark Bhandari’s 74th birth anniversary, Oli said that Bhandari’s political philosophy remains relevant and meaningful even today.
The event, titled Three Decades of People’s Multiparty Democracy, focused on the political legacy of Bhandari, who is widely known for introducing the concept of Janata ko Bahudaliya Janabad (People’s Multiparty Democracy). PM Oli said Bhandari gave a new ideological direction to Nepal’s leftist movement during a time when global faith in socialism was declining.
“During a period of doubt around the world regarding socialist ideals, Bhandari brought clarity and confidence to the leftist movement in Nepal,” Oli said. He added that Bhandari’s ideas helped transform both the CPN-UML and the national political landscape.
Oli stressed that Bhandari’s teachings serve as a guide for how political leaders should act — staying true to their principles but also being flexible and strategic in a changing environment. According to Oli, this approach is essential not just for Nepal but for leftist movements around the world.
