Prime Minister Sushila Karki has described the recent Gen-Z–led protests as a direct response to corruption, misgovernance, and state neglect of citizens’ demands. Addressing the Constitution Day ceremony at Tundikhel, she said the movement reflects civic consciousness and serves as a test for democratic health and inclusive governance.

Karki stressed that good governance, transparency, employment, equality before law, and development are shared national agendas, pledging her government’s commitment to fulfill these expectations. She also highlighted the growing desire of young people to participate in governance, policymaking, and international-standard practices.

The Prime Minister announced that reconstruction of damaged infrastructure, restoring private sector confidence, holding elections on schedule, and inclusive development would remain top government priorities. Marking Constitution Day as not only a celebration but also a moment of self-reflection, she called for cooperation across all sectors to ensure effective implementation of the constitution.

Karki emphasized that she assumed office not out of ambition, but in response to the youth’s call for leadership during a transitional period. She reaffirmed her commitment to hold House of Representatives elections by March 2026 and transfer power to a people-elected government.

The ceremony was attended by President Ram Chandra Paudel, Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav, the Chief Justice, Speakers of both houses, former prime ministers, security chiefs, and foreign diplomats.
