Minister for Home Home Affairs, Ramesh Lekhak, is facing growing pressure to resign after his alleged link to a visit visa scandal. The issue became serious after the CIAA arrested Tirtha Raj Bhattarai, the head of the Immigration Office at Tribhuvan International Airport, for corruption related to issuing visit visas.
Now, several opposition parties are demanding Lekhak’s resignation to ensure a fair investigation. The Maoist Centre has clearly stated that Lekhak should step down to prevent political influence. Spokesperson Agni Sapkota warned that delaying resignation would harm the state’s credibility.
The Rastriya Swatantra Party has also said Tuesday’s parliament meeting will not be normal. The party is preparing to raise strong questions in the House.
The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has gone further, demanding not only Lekhak’s but also Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s resignation. RPP leader Gyanendra Shahi claimed that the PM’s private secretary was named in the scandal by a detainee for demanding Rs 10 million.
Minister Lekhak, meanwhile, has said he will speak in detail soon and asked the public not to panic.
With rising political tension, Tuesday’s parliamentary session is expected to be stormy as pressure builds for high-level accountability.
