Starting from Shrawan 1 (17, July), all payments made by public institutions in Nepal will be done through electronic systems.

The Ministry of Finance has issued a notice to all government offices, the Nepal Rastra Bank, public institutions, boards, committees, and authorities, asking them to use digital payment systems for all transactions.

This decision comes after it was found that some boards and public institutions have still not fully implemented electronic payment systems.

The Ministry said this circular follows the commitment made in the budget for the fiscal year 2082/83.

Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel had earlier announced that all payments from public bodies—such as salaries, allowances, payments to contractors, grants, and pensions—will be made through online banking.

The government hopes this move will make services easier and improve financial transparency. Until now, some payments were still being made in cash or by cheque.
