On Wednesday, the Nepali Congress (NC) took strong action against its own leaders amid internal conflicts. General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma, along with Joint General Secretary Farmullah Mansoor, were suspended from even ordinary party membership for five years.
Party officials said this decision came after growing tensions between the party leadership and those supporting a Special General Convention. The disciplinary action follows failed talks aimed at resolving differences within the party.
Supporters of the Special General Convention had proposed an eight-point plan to settle the dispute, but discussions could not produce an agreement.
After the failed negotiations, the leaders backing the Special General Convention are now planning to announce a new working committee, a move that is expected to deepen the crisis in the country’s largest political party.
