Nepal is observing the 28th Ganeshman Singh Memorial Day today, paying tribute to the supreme commander of the 1990 People’s Movement and his defining role in restoring multiparty democracy.
Known as a symbol of sacrifice and courage in Nepali politics, Singh’s legacy continues to inspire generations. Born in 1972 BS in Chaksibari, Chhetrapati, he devoted his life to democratic struggles, enduring prison, exile, and decades of political resistance. Singh co-founded the Nepali National Congress with BP Koirala in India, which later became the Nepali Congress, and played a pivotal role in movements leading to political change, including the 2036 BS student protests and referendum.
To honor his memory, the Nepali Congress and its sister organizations organized various programs, beginning with a wreath-laying ceremony at Singh’s statue in Shobha Bhagwati, Kathmandu, earlier today.
