Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Rabi Lamichhane and Balendra Shah on Monday to congratulate them on their big victory in Nepal’s elections.

Modi spoke with Lamichhane and Shah as the Rastriya Swatantra Party was close to winning a two-thirds majority in Parliament. The party is expected to secure around 125 direct seats in the House of Representatives of Nepal, as the counting of both direct and proportional representation votes is almost finished.

In a post on X, Modi said he had a warm phone conversation with Lamichhane and Shah and congratulated them on their election victory and the RSP’s strong performance in the Nepal elections.

He also wished them success for the new government and said India is ready to work together with Nepal for mutual prosperity, development, and the well-being of both countries. Modi added that he believes India-Nepal relations will grow stronger in the coming years.

Earlier, Lamichhane and Shah had agreed that Balen Shah would become Prime Minister if their party won the election.
