MP Shakya Calls for Establishment of Agriculture Center of Excellence

National Assembly member Dr. Anjan Shakya has emphasized the need to establish an Agriculture Center of Excellence to promote overall development in Nepal’s farming sector.

While expressing her views on the fiscal year 2082–83 budget in the National Assembly, she said the center would focus on areas like soil quality testing, proper crop selection, seed quality and treatment, seed production and collection, and the commercialization and modernization of agriculture.

“This center will create job opportunities for scientists, professors, agricultural experts, engineers, entrepreneurs, students, and farmers,” she said. “It will also help Nepal become an agriculture-based export nation.”

She also welcomed the government’s move in the previous budget to support youth through startup promotion. “Instead of seeking jobs, youth should be encouraged to become job providers,” she said. 

She mentioned that over 500 startups have already been registered in Nepal, and by 2030, it is estimated that the number could reach 10,000 startups, including more than 100 unicorn companies, creating over 50,000 jobs.

“To achieve these goals, we need to promote modern investment models like angel investors, venture capital, crowdfunding, and private equity,” she added.
