Nepali Congress has responded strongly to the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), saying they should not lecture others on morality. During Sunday’s House of Representatives session, Congress Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire criticized RSP for demanding the home minister’s resignation over the visa scandal.
He said that asking for the resignation just because the anti-corruption commission took a statement from a ministry official was not justified. RSP has been claiming that since Home Ministry officials are under investigation, the minister should step down on moral grounds.
Ghimire fired back by questioning how RSP President Rabi Lamichhane, who is facing multiple court cases related to cooperative fraud and organized crime, can still hold his position. He said it’s ironic for someone with pending legal issues to talk about ethics. Ghimire also asked how Lamichhane can lead the party's parliamentary team when he is suspended as an MP.
