Senior Nepali Congress leader Mohan Bahadur Basnet has publicly accused the party’s General Secretary, Gagan Kumar Thapa, of playing a key role in pushing the anti-corruption body to take action against him.

Speaking at a Central Working Committee meeting on Wednesday, Basnet did not hold back his frustration. He claimed that Thapa had actively worked behind the scenes—and even in Parliament—to pressure the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) to investigate him in the controversial Teramax case.

According to a central committee member who was present at the meeting, Basnet openly expressed his anger and disappointment toward Thapa. He reportedly said, “Gagan Thapa raised this issue inside the party and outside as well. He influenced the CIAA to act against me. It’s because of him that I’m facing this case.”

Basnet further warned that if such internal targeting continues, many leaders might find themselves in a similar position. “No one will remain untouched. Everyone’s turn will come sooner or later,” he added, sounding both frustrated and emotional.

The CIAA had earlier filed a case against Basnet in connection with the Teramax scandal. He was released on bail after depositing Rs 2.5 million, as ordered by the Special Court.
