The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has released its 2081 BS report on Tribhuvan University’s (TU) land and immovable assets, marking a significant step toward greater transparency in public property management.
The report, made public on Sunday, came two days after the Cabinet authorized its publication. Education Minister Mahabir Pun confirmed that the Ministry has begun enforcing the report’s recommendations in line with the Cabinet’s decision.
Compiled by a committee led by former secretary Sharada Prasad Trital, the report examines TU’s properties spread across Kirtipur, Naikap, Dhungeadda, and Patan. It outlines both efficient and questionable uses of university land, calling for stronger oversight and immediate corrective action.
The 179-page document, originally submitted in 2023 by committee member Mahendra Thapa to then Education Minister Bidya Bhattarai, offers a rare, detailed account of TU’s real estate status, an issue often mired in controversy and mismanagement.
Officials say the findings will guide upcoming reforms aimed at protecting public assets and ensuring universities remain accountable for their properties.
